Boat Trip on the Eastern Coast: the great beaches seen from the sea
In contrast to the jagged relief of Cap Corse or Balagne, the Eastern Coast unfolds a straight coastline, lined with long stretches of fine sand that sometimes extend for several kilometres without interruption. From Moriani to the south of the eastern plain, this coast offers a sea that is generally more sheltered than on the rest of Haute-Corse, making it a particularly pleasant area for a quiet boat trip, far from the narrow coves and the busiest spots on the island.

A coastline shaped by the plain and long sandy beaches
Unlike Cap Corse or Balagne, the East Coast does not owe its charm to cliffs or rocky coves, but to the expanse of its sandy shoreline and the gentleness of its relief. Seen from a boat, the coast unfolds in an almost continuous line of pale sand, dotted with a few river mouths and small harbors. Several points of interest punctuate this area:
- The area of Moriani-Plage, known for its long stretches of sand
- The hilltop village of Cervione, set slightly back on the heights
- The Castagniccia hinterland, visible as a backdrop from the sea
- The mouths of the rivers that cross the eastern plain before reaching the Mediterranean
This gentler coastline configuration, with no major elevation changes or rocky obstacles, generally makes navigation simpler and more predictable than in the mountainous areas of northern Corsica, which is well suited to long outings, family trips, or a peaceful discovery of the coastline.
Outings particularly suited to families
The relative calm of the sea in this area, combined with sandy beaches ideal for swimming stops, makes the Eastern Coast one of the most accessible areas of Haute-Corse for a first boating experience. Unlike the rocky coves of Cap Corse or Balagne, entering the water here is generally gradual and safe, an advantage for families with young children. As the distances between points of interest are greater than on the jagged northern coasts, day trips often allow you to cover a longer stretch of coastline.
Weather and sailing conditions on the east coast
The Eastern Coast is generally less exposed to strong winds than Cap Corse or the northern tip of Balagne, as the plain offers more sheltered terrain. The dominant wind there remains the libeccio during the day, though its effect is generally more moderate than in the mountainous areas. Morning outings are still recommended in the height of summer to enjoy the calmest possible sea, especially on the longest crossings along the plain.
When to go for a boat trip on the Eastern Coast
The season typically runs from May to October, with a climate that is often milder and more stable than elsewhere in Haute-Corse thanks to the plain's low relief. June and September remain the most comfortable months, with already warm water and lower crowds than the summer peak of July-August.
Other activities to combine with the Eastern Coast
The Eastern Coast lends itself well to other discoveries beyond a boat trip. To sail freely, boat rental on the Eastern Coast lets you explore the coastline at your own pace, while paddleboarding is well suited to the long sheltered beaches of this area. Moving a little away from the shore, the Castagniccia hinterland and its waterfalls (Struccia, Bughja, Ucelluline) offer a striking contrast with the coastline, just a few kilometres from the coast. For accommodation, the campsites in the Ghisonaccia area and those in Moriani-Bravone both offer direct access to these long beaches.
