Jet Ski and Central Corsica: where to ride when staying around Corte
Central Corsica is the mountainous heart of the island: peaks above 2,000 metres, deep gorges, laricio pine forests, stone villages clinging to the slopes. It is a land of hiking, river swimming and panoramas, but it is not a land of jet skiing. The reason is simple: jet skiing is an open sea activity, and this area has no maritime frontage.

Why jet skiing is not practiced in Central Corsica
Jet skiing requires a large, deep, clear, marked body of water with precise navigation rules. None of this exists in the island's interior. The rivers in the area, such as the Restonica, Asco, Golo, or Tavignano, are mountain streams: narrow, shallow, dotted with granite blocks and ledges, with highly variable flows between snowmelt and summer. They are not navigable for this type of craft.
High-altitude lakes such as Lake Melo and Lake Capitello or Lake Nino are fragile mountain sites, accessible only on foot. As for reservoirs and mountain bodies of water, they are not developed for this type of activity. In this area, jet skiing simply has no place, and that is how it should be: the silence of the valleys is part of their charm.
Where to jet ski when staying around Corte
The good news is that Corsica is small and the three coastlines of Haute-Corse are accessible within half a day from Corte. The travel times below are indicative and vary depending on traffic and the season:
- Towards Bastia and Cap Corse: about 1 hour 10 minutes by road. This is the area to choose to combine the Gulf of Saint-Florent, the marinas of the east coast and the northern tip. All the details are on the jet ski in Bastia and Cap Corse page.
- Towards the East Coast: about 50 minutes to the Aléria plain. Calm sea, sandy beaches and easy outings for families are on the agenda of the jet ski on the East Coast page.
- Towards Balagne: about 2 hours by road to Calvi. The Bay of Calvi, Île-Rousse and Lozari are described on the jet ski in Balagne page.
For a single day of jet skiing, the East Coast is by far the closest and easiest: leave Corte early, ride in the morning when the sea is calmest, then head back in the afternoon to the coolness of the valleys.
What water activities can you do on site?
If your stay is centred on Corte, water is not absent for all that, it simply takes another form. The granite pools of the Restonica valley are among the most beautiful swimming spots on the island, and the guide to the natural pools of the Restonica and Asco helps you choose where to cool off. For an even more mineral setting, the gorges of the Asco valley lead to the foot of Monte Cinto.
For a dose of aquatic adrenaline, canyoning in Central Corsica takes you down the granite gorges by abseiling, jumping and natural slides. And to glide on the water more gently, kayaking in Central Corsica lets you descend some of the region's rivers in spring, when the water level allows.
Organising your stay around Corte
