Between Calvi and Ile-Rousse, Corbara, a village perched in Balagne

Stronghold of the powerful Savelli family and the Sultana of Morocco, Davia, Corbara is made up of neighborhoods stretching out facing the sea with magnificent cobbled streets and tall, multi-storey houses.

The village belongs to the pieve of Aregno of which it is historically the capital, in Balagne. Born under Roman occupation, the town experienced the successive domination of the Lombards, the Franks and the Saracens. At the independence of Corsica in 816, Corbara became a town of princely families and the first building “the fort”, in ruins today, recalls the life of yesteryear.

Corbara offers a religious heritage in a good state of conservation with a nice concentration of churches, chapels and a cathedral.

During your getaway to Corbara, admire the nave of the vault and the monumental paintings by Pietro Sicuri of the church of the Brotherhood of the Penitents of Saint-Antoine-Abbot. Walk the streets with its arched passages to visit the Balanin village. There are also religious buildings such as the Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs chapel, the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin and the Saint-Dominique convent. The A Nunziata collegiate church houses the Treasury Museum and a collection of liturgical ornaments.
At the top of the village, you will find Guy Savelli’s house. The house museum brings together portraits, maps and posters from the period, handwritten letters and old musical instruments. A real treasure and as a guide, the master of the place himself

On the outskirts of the city, the 7 kilometers of beach will offer everyone the pleasure of cooling off in the beautiful turquoise water of the Mediterranean Sea.
