Horse riding in Haute-Corse: an adventure not to be missed
The Eastern Coast, also known as Costa Verde or Costa Serena depending on the stretch, offers the most accessible terrain of the four equestrian areas of Haute-Corse: a wide, flat coastal plain, bordered by long sandy beaches, with the wooded hills of the Castagniccia in the background. It is also historically a land of mule paths, once used by Corsican shepherds to reach the interior, now taken over by the equestrian centers of the area.

The equestrian center of San Giuliano, between river and beach
Les Écuries de San Giuliano, in the heart of the Costa Verde, welcome riders from the age of 3, making it one of the centers most open to families with young children. The rides first wind through shaded paths, cross a river, then reach the beach for a swim with the horses. For more experienced riders, long trails stretch as far as the eye can see, perfect for real gallops.
The center is easily accessible from the campsites in the Moriani and Bravone area, allowing for a simple one-hour outing or a full day trip.
The Tavagna Cavallu ranch and the mule paths of Talasani
In Talasani, the Tavagna Cavallu ranch is a small family-run establishment that takes riders along ancient mule paths, between scrubland and beach. The signature ride, about 3 hours long, alternates between land and sea, and usually ends with a swim in the sea, still on horseback. It is accessible from age 8, for beginners and experienced riders alike.
A donkey ride in the Fiuminale valley
Note that in the same area but on a different note: A Stalla di l'Infernu offers, not horseback rides, but donkey treks in the Fiuminale valley, in Castagniccia. Several routes are possible, from a few hours to a full day, with swimming stops in natural pools. This is a particularly suitable option for families with very young children, as a complement to a more classic horseback outing.
Between sea and Castagniccia
What sets the Eastern Coast apart is the ability to combine the coastline and the hinterland in a single outing. The trails often climb toward the first foothills of the Castagniccia, a region of chestnut trees and typical villages, before descending back to the fine sandy beaches. Some itineraries even offer views of the Inzecca waterfalls, one of the area's natural wonders.
For beginners and families
Of all the equestrian areas in Haute-Corse, the Eastern Coast is undoubtedly the most suited to complete beginners in riding: flat terrain, horses accustomed to younger riders, and several centers accepting children from age 3. Longer outings, especially toward the interior or on trail rides, remain reserved for those already used to spending several hours in the saddle.
When to go?
The season extends broadly from April to October. Spring and early autumn offer mild temperatures, ideal for long rides. In summer, the heat of the eastern plain can be more pronounced than elsewhere on the island, prompting most centers to favor morning or late afternoon outings, with the horseback swim as a reward.
Other activities to combine on site
The Eastern Coast lends itself well to an active stay between sea and nature: kayaking or diving along the coastline, hiking toward Castagniccia. All activities in the area are listed on the activities in Haute-Corse page.
