NONZA BEACH

Nonza Beach

Nonza beach is located on the west coast of Cap Corse, and it is one of the most famous and most touristy in the region on the Gulf of Saint-Florent.

It is indeed one of the most unique beaches in Corsica, somewhat reminiscent of certain volcanic beaches in the Caribbean: the contrast between the turquoise blue of the sea, the small dark pebbles (between gray and black) and the greenery behind the the beach is stunning. The reason ? Its proximity to an old mine 15 km away, now closed, whose harmless residues gave this color to the beach for almost 1 km.

Nonza, a Caribbean beach

You have to take the time to climb the rocky peak that overlooks it, in the middle of the wild fig trees: the 360° view is spectacular. You can even succumb to a local tradition of young people or lovers: using the white pebbles of the beach to write little words, and admire the result from above. It’s a very original idea for a “postcard” to send to someone you’re thinking of, with a unique photo and a 100% tailor-made ephemeral message, in the spirit of the Nazca lines ! Few passing tourists do not sacrifice this tradition.

A trendy bar allows you in the evening to admire the sunset with a small cocktail and sometimes a DJ.

On the left of the beach, you can see the perched village of Nonza.

This medieval village, with its 16th century square tower, is among the most beautiful in Corsica.

From Saint-Florent, it takes around 30 minutes to drive and 50 minutes from Bastia. You have to park in the village and go down the 500 steps… which you will have to climb again on the way back ! But Nonza Beach is worth this effort, because the path alone is an invitation to a change of scenery, with its old stone walls and its small stone arches under which you have to pass.

Don’t hesitate to also make a quick stop at the Ste-Julie fountain: you can enjoy a superb panorama over the entire coastline. Even if the water from this fountain supposedly had miraculous properties, avoid drinking it: it will be so much more pleasant to have a little drink in the village square, just to savor all the beautiful images that you have in your head .
