THE VILLAGE OF MONTEMAGGIORE

Montemaggiore, at the foot of the mountains

A destination in the beautiful Balagne region and a tour of the most beautiful Corsican villages in the region, Montemaggiore has no shortage of attractions. Surrounded by mountains, including Monte Gosso, is a village in Balagne, one of the most beautiful in the northwest of the island.

During your walk in the heart of the village, you will discover the baroque church of Saint Augustin from the 18th century, and its stone houses. Climbing to the top of the village, towards the ruins of the old village on the A Cima site, enjoy a 360°C view of the region, particularly of the Gulf of Calvi and the Revellata peninsula. An exceptional panorama !

Montemaggiore, meet at the olive tree fair

For many years, in homage and in honor of the Balanine olive tradition, “A Fiera di l’Alivu”, the olive tree fair, has been taking place; artisans and olive growers are happy to share their experience and know-how with you.

Camping holidays in Corsica: the essentials of the Balagne region

To properly situate it, La Balagne is a region of Haute-Corse, located on the northwest coast of the Isle of Beauty. This region attracts tourists with its variation of landscapes between sea and mountains, fine sandy beaches, seaside resorts which allow them to indulge in relaxation as well as family or more sporting leisure activities. The high altitude landscapes in the hinterland obviously offer beautiful hiking trails but also typical Corsican villages as we like them.

A good opportunity during your vacation in Corsica, to stop in each hamlet of the hinterland, small medieval villages where the inhabitants and artisans will welcome you with open arms. Some stand out as essential stops: San Antonino, Lumio, Pigna, Corbara, Speloncata, Monticello. Stroll through the squares, soak up Corsican traditions with the elders, discover the vestiges of times gone by such as the fountains and wash houses or the stone houses steeped in history.

If you want to know more about this beautiful sub-region and all that it has to offer, do not hesitate to visit the website of the Balagne tourist office : https://balagne-corsica.com/.
