Bungee jumping on the Eastern Coast
Looking for a bungee jump near Moriani, Aléria or Ghisonaccia? Here’s what really exists on the eastern plain, and how to organise yourself to jump anyway.
The only region of Corsica without a single metre of cliff
Unlike Cap Corse or Balagne, the Eastern Coast has no vertical relief: it is the island’s only true coastal plain, lined with long sandy beaches and dotted with the Étang de Diane and Étang d’Urbino, around Aléria, the former capital of Roman Corsica. Vineyards, citrus orchards and oyster farms share this flat terrain stretching to the horizon. A geography that explains, even more simply than elsewhere, why no operator has ever set up bungee jumping there: there is quite simply no bridge or natural platform high enough.

No establishment currently offers bungee jumping in Corsica!

What the plain does offer, however, is space: the Ghisonaccia airfield hosts one of only two skydiving centers in Corsica. In tandem with an instructor, you jump from a small plane for around 200 km/h of free fall before the parachute opens, with a possible landing directly on the beach. The sensation of the great void, here, is experienced in the air rather than at the end of a bungee cord.
From the plain, the simplest route to the Verdon
Another difference from the rest of Haute-Corse: no mountain pass to cross to reach the starting point. The East Coast is descended in one go via the N198 to Bastia, where Bastia-Poretta airport and the port allow you to reach Nice by plane or ferry. There are then about two hours of driving to reach the Artuby bridge, in the Verdon gorges, the highest bungee jumping bridge in Europe.
The adrenaline activities to try on the East Coast
The flat body of water and the long beaches mainly benefit water activities: jet-skiing, towed buoy and wakeboarding find here a much more suitable terrain than on the rocky coasts of the rest of Haute-Corse — not to mention, of course, skydiving in Ghisonaccia.
