A seabed that drops off quickly, and a point swept by currents
Cap Corse offers a rocky bottom that plunges rapidly just outside small harbors like Erbalunga, Sisco, Centuri, or Macinaggio, ideal for hunting sea bream, sea bass, and dentex from the rocks or by boat. At the tip of the Cap, where the Tyrrhenian Sea meets the western Mediterranean, currents are strong enough to attract pelagic fish: this area is renowned for trolling (tuna, bonito, mahi-mahi), practiced offshore from the Giraglia.
Protected areas to know before fishing or diving
The entire tip of Cap Corse is classified as a nature reserve: around the Finocchiarola islands, Giraglia, and Capense, all forms of fishing are prohibited within 10 meters of the shores, anchoring is forbidden within a 200-meter radius of Finocchiarola, and scuba diving is also prohibited there. Around Bastia, the local fishing reserve prohibits all fishing except line fishing from the shore and squid fishing with a jig: spearfishing is not allowed. The entire area also falls under the Cap Corse and Agriate marine natural park, which may add its own management rules depending on the zones.
